John Mark COWLS (1887-1966) was born in Porthleven, Cornwall.
He was one of the nine children of
   Joseph Thomas COWLS (1856-1946) & Emma RICHARDS:

Phyllis 1900

“Jack (John Mark) and several of his siblings became teachers.
He also married a teacher.

John Mark COWLS married Sarah Annie ENGLAND, they had one child, Margaret Dalton(b 1913)
Margaret Dalton COWLS married Willie Fritz GRYGO. in 1944 and they had one child, Mark Otto GRYGO
When Margaret & Willie separated and Willie went back to the USA, both Margaret and her son changed their surnames to DALTON, the surname of Margaret’s maternal grandmother.
So they became: Margaret DALTON and Mark Otto DALTON.

My dear grandaughter
Your letter was much
welcome I was glad to hear from you
and that were enjoying ……
the and being - - – – about
the rain – – realy tired of it as
I am writing it is pouring down fast
Yesterday it was fine I went over to
your Uncle Willie‘s for the first time since
they came from Newlyn. I had a most
enjoyable day they were all delighted to
see me. I shall go again soon I hope.
Mother has been twice since you have
been away and Sissie and Edith was
down this week and took tea with me
so I have not been neglected altogether.
I think they were all glas to see me
go out yesterday I have no news dear.
They heard from John Henry last week
from Malta. I had no letter but he sent
me a present of 2 Maltese lace handkerchiefs.
I shall have a letter next voyage all
being well but he was very well when
he wrote. We hope to hear from

Gilbert next week he left from the
Mediterranean but he heard
since that the ?Petrawl? boats are
bound for Mudros* but we don’t know
where he is gone - we get a letter
we need to – this awful war to –
I was very disappointed you not seeing
Jim when he was home given my
best love to him John Mark was down
and Annie and dear little Margaret
and – teas wish one I was so glad
to see them all Uncle Perkins and
his wife – – to send their
kindest love to you they came in
last night after I cam home.
There has been a great quantity of
visitors here but I should think
they will be leaving soon now.
Did you go into the New Forest I
hope you had a fine day I -
you to have all the pleasure you can
have while you are away – you
tired reading this scrawl but I find
I cannot write as I wish to so good bye
