Methleigh Farm

METHLEIGH MANOR predated Porthleven and the Penrose estate by hundreds of years.
In the year 1086,, then known as MATELA, it was a “one hides estate” (180 acres) owned by Osburn Fitz Osbern (Bishop of Exeter) having been granted to the Church by King Canute.

In 1714, Samuel COODE, gentleman, purchased the Manor and the Lordship of Methleigh, the mill, the mill moor and ownership of the cove of Breage), some of which formed part of the harbour area.
The mill was at the bottom of Mill Lane (where Gala Parc, the football ground is now). It was in use as a mill until 1882.
